Chinese New Year During the second new moon of the new year, Chinese communities around the world celebrate the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival! The start of the Chinese New Year is different every year because it follows the phases of the moon. Chinese New Year is a 15-day festival that has been celebrated for thousands of years. There are many fun activities during the festival. The festival can have:
Food
Fireworks
Parades
Dragon dances
Plays
The festival allows families and friends to come together and honor their ancestors while they welcome the new year. The color red is seen all over the festival as it is said to bring good luck and good fortune. People wear red and decorate their homes with beautiful red items.
