Mardi Gras Cake Pops This Fat Tuesday, why not celebrate with a sweet treat that serves as a great sensory activity? These Mardi Gras cake pops provide autistic kiddos the opportunity to practice fine motor skills and time management. Ingredients:
- Boxed cake mix of your choice or one homemade cake
- Frosting of choice
- Green, yellow, and purple candy melts
- Cake pop sticks Instructions:
1. Prepare your cake by following your homemade cake recipe or the recipe on the boxed cake mix. Once baked, allow it to cool completely.
2. Begin crumbling your cooled cake in a large bowl and combine it with two tablespoons of frosting. Continue to add frosting to your crumble. You may need about 1 cup, depending on the moistness of your cake. You want the consistency to feel like wet sand and hold form when you squeeze it.
3. Line a container with parchment paper. Use a cookie scooper or a spoon to scoop about two tablespoons of your cake mixture. Roll each scoop into a ball and place it into your lined container. Pop your container in the freezer and allow it to freeze for 30 minutes.
4. Before your timer is up, melt one of your candy melt colors in a microwave-safe cup or bowl. To melt, microwave for 1 minute in 30-second increments, mixing each time until smooth.
5. Remove five cake balls from the freezer and set aside. Dip the tip of a cake pop stick into your candy melt mixture and allow any excess to drip off. Insert the stick halfway through your cake ball and then coat the ball by turning it in your candy melt mixture. Allow the excess to drip off and set on a styrofoam block or a container filled with rice.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with your remaining two candy melt colors. After coating all the cake pops, wait for them to set before enjoying!Download Now!
